Julia Brookshire is the Director of Safety and Risk Management for Swim Across America. Each year, Julia oversees safety and risk management for thousands of swimmers and volunteers, who swim in one of 26 open water charity swims. Proceeds from Swim Across America events fund groundbreaking cancer research and critical patient programs through partnerships with beneficiaries in each of their 26 communities. Established in 1987, Swim Across America has raised over $150 million dollars to give families hope in the fight against cancer.
 
As a lifelong swimmer, certified lifeguard instructor, open water lifeguard, and certified water rescue technician, Julia isn't partial to one particular body of water. As Director of Safety and Risk Management, Julia has a keen ability to understand the unique qualities of each venue and body of water, ensuring a safe - and meaningful - experience for swimmers, volunteers, and spectators. As a cancer survivor, Julia understands the purpose behind each stroke.

The only things Julia loves more than swimming and safety are her two sons (three if you count her cockapoo, Fred). She lives in Charlotte, North Carolina when she isn't traveling the world searching for a new body of water to swim in.
